3 ED closures in 1 month

Three emergency departments have been forced to close their doors over the last month due to shifting care needs and closures of associated hospitals.

Here are the emergency department closures that Becker's has reported since Jan. 8:

1. Two emergency rooms are expected to close as part of the planned closure of two Hospital Sisters Health System hospitals, Eau Claire, Wis.-based Sacred Heart Hospital and Chippewa Falls, Wis.-based St. Joseph's Hospital, and regional health centers the system operates with Green Bay, Wis.-based Prevea Health..

2. The emergency department at the Port Arthur-based Medical Center of Southeast Texas Beaumont campus closed, along with the campus itself, on Feb. 2. TMCST is part of Dallas-based Steward Health Care.

3. Kettering (Ohio) Health shuttered its emergency department at Kettering Health Piqua on Feb. 1 due to a shift in the types of needed care over the last 18 months, which has led to less "true emergency cases" and more demand for other care types, according to a Kettering Health statement shared with Becker's.
