The Golisano Children's Hospital opens in Florida: 5 things to know

Fort Myers-based The Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida, part of Fort Myers-based Lee Health, opened its new 128-bed facility, WXXI News reports.

Here are five things to know about the hospital.

1. The original children's hospital opened in Fort Myers' HealthPark Medical Center in 1994.

2. The Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida may expand its capacity to 160 beds, WXXI states.  

3. The facility houses a 64-room neonatal intensive care unit and a classroom allowing children to continue studies throughout treatment.

4. The Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida will begin accepting patients in May, according to the report.

5. The hospital is one of three hospitals bearing the name of Paychex founder and philanthropist Tom Golisano. The other two hospitals are located in New York state.
