6 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Six hospitals or health systems announced, started or completed construction projects in the last week:

1. Atrium Health plans to build $147M hospital
Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health has submitted plans to build a $147.1 million hospital in Lake Norman, N.C.

2. Virginia Hospital Center breaks ground on $250M expansion
After receiving approval for the expansion nearly a year ago, Arlington-based Virginia Hospital Center has broken ground on its $250 million project that will grow its outpatient capacity.

3. Medical City to open $107M cancer hospital Oct. 28
Medical City Plano (Texas) will open its $107 million cancer hospital to patients Oct. 28.

4. Spectrum Health to consolidate 26 administrative offices into 1 location
Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health plans to spend about $100 million to fund construction of a new facility that will consolidate its administrative offices into one location.

5. Cedars-Sinai to build 9-story replacement for Marina Del Rey Hospital
Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai plans to build a nine-story replacement hospital for its Marina Del Rey Hospital, also based in Los Angeles. 

6. Reno to get its first full-service hospital in a century
Sparks-based Northern Nevada Health System broke ground on its new hospital in Reno, Nev., which is the first full-service hospital to be built in the region in a century.
