Health First, a community health system that operates four hospitals in Brevard County, Fla., plans to invest $600 million to build three wellness and health villages and relocate one of its facilities, according to Florida Today.
The health villages will be in Melbourne, Merritt Island and Palm Bay, all in Florida. They will offer a variety of outpatient procedures as well as imaging and diagnostics. They will also offer space for fitness initiatives and community events.
"These wellness villages will transform the customer healthcare experience for Brevard," Health First President Steve Johnson told Florida Today. "With these villages, we will be able to increase access, ease and convenience of healthcare for families at an affordable cost."
The health system also plans to move its Cocoa Beach, Fla.-based Cape Canaveral Hospital to Merritt Island. The Merritt Island hospital will have 120 beds, six operating suites and 28 emergency department bays. Construction is expected to start next year.
Cape Canaveral Hospital will continue operations at its current site until the new facility is built.
