The New York City Economic Development Corporation will begin accepting offers Wednesday from developers interested in redeveloping the former Staten Island, N.Y.-based Seaview Hospital, once the nation's largest tuberculosis hospital, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Officials with the organization said the project will be one of the first large-scale health-focused developments in the city. The project aims to promote health and fitness and will feature "abundant public spaces, access to healthy food and design features that connect [the space] to the nearby Staten Island Greenbelt, a series of forests and wetlands that [run] through the site," according to the article. Architecture firm Perkins + Will will be responsible for constructing the campus.
Officials said they will consider proposals from multiple developers looking to either build the entire site or parts of the site.
The city closed the former Seaview Hospital, which included 26 empty buildings spread across the 80-acre campus, in 1961, according to the article.
