Jacksonville, Fla.-based Memorial Hospital recently finished a $2.5 million renovation and upgrade of two cardiovascular operating rooms, the hospital told Becker's.
Here are four things to know about the upgrade:
1. The ORs are considered "Smart ORs" or "iSuites." New technology gives physicians easy access to patients' information, images and video.
2. Cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dale Mueller, MD, said the "operating rooms allow us to increase efficiency and optimize patient care. Being able to access 3D images during cardiothoracic and vascular surgery enhances visualization and communication so everyone in the room involved in the patient's care can follow precise details and provide real-time input during surgical procedures."
3. Other technological features include a high-definition video monitor suspended from the ceiling with image- and video-streaming capabilities to consult off-site specialists.
4. Memorial Hospital President and CEO Bradley S. Talbert said in a prepared statement, "Investing in our cardiovascular operating rooms allows us to enhance how we deliver care to patients and position ourselves for future innovation." The hospital's physicians perform about 300 heart surgeries annually.
