Construction resumes at Texas hospital after deadly explosion

Gatesville, Texas-based Coryell Memorial Healthcare System resumed construction on its expansion project after an explosion at the construction site June 27 killed two people and injured 14, according to a KWTX report.

The 117,000-square-foot project is an addition to the existing hospital that will feature a 25-bed hospital wing, administration offices, operating rooms, a 16-bed rehabilitation facility and a new central plant that houses chillers and boilers.

Although construction resumed just two weeks following the explosion, the opening of the new addition may be delayed.

The explosion occurred inside the Central Utilities Plant building that was under construction. The building was intended to house the hospital's new boilers and chillers.

A candlelight vigil will be held July 19 for those injured and killed in the explosion.
