Children's Hospital of Wisconsin plans $265M expansion

In its first major construction project in more than a decade, Wauwatosa-based Children's Hospital of Wisconsin will invest $265 million to upgrade and expand its main campus, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The project includes construction of a 237,000-square-foot, six-story building for medical offices and an expansion of the hospital's emergency department. Once construction is completed on the ED it will feature 44 rooms, up from the existing 34.

The new structure will also enable Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to consolidate its surgical services onto one floor, instead of two, to increase operating efficiency.

ED renovations are expected to begin in 2019 and end in 2021. Construction on the six-story addition is expected to begin in late 2018 and end in 2021.

Children's last major expansion was a $165.9 million patient tower, which opened in 2009.
