Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y., and Valhalla, N.Y.-based Westchester Medical Center Health Network announced plans for a more than $40 million expansion project Tuesday.
Plans include the construction of a "medical village" located on the first floor of the hospital that would contain a pharmacy and various primary care services, including pediatric and dental care. Officials call the village a "one-stop-shopping" destination where patients can receive primary care sooner, which will free up more emergency rooms and lower costs, according to the Times Herald Record.
Additional projects include increasing emergency department rooms from 13 to 20, upgrading imaging technology and converting 36 medical and surgical rooms into private patient rooms. The renovation will also expand waiting room areas and move the hospital's main entrance to East Main Street.
Bon Secours and WMCHealth plan to submit the required paperwork for the renovation to state and city officials within the next few days. They plan to start construction this spring and hope to finish the renovation by spring 2019. A $24.5 million state grant will fund the project.
