Following the recent unveiling of Traverse City, Mich.-based MunsonMedicalCenter's $45 million CowellFamilyCancerCenter, hospital leaders appeared before Traverse City planning commissioners to present additional expansion plans, according to the Traverse Ticker.
The proposed expansion is part of Munson's Master Site and Facility Plan, which provides a public record of any growth planned in the next five years. The document allows city regulators to keep an eye on potential infrastructure needs and allows residents to stay informed of any upcoming projects that could affect the surrounding neighborhood, according to the report.
The latest addition to the Master Site and Facility Plan includes adding a new parking deck and the construction of several new hospital buildings. The largest component of the project will add a new pediatrics and birthing wing.
"The main purpose of this expansion is to provide much-needed replacement facilities for our women and children's services (obstetrics and pediatrics)," Munson Facilities Design Manager Doug Wipperman wrote in a memo to city staff, according to the Traverse Ticker. "The expansion will also include operating rooms expansion for surgical services, and replacements for medical and surgical beds."
