Abrazo Health opens neighborhood hospital

Phoenix-based Abrazo Health opened a neighborhood hospital in Mesa, Ariz., Oct. 1.

The eight-bed inpatient facility offers 24-hour emergency care and surgical services.

It has an emergency department with 13 exam rooms, one operating room, one procedure room and a three-bed post-anesthesia recovery unit.

"This is a new model for bringing healthcare closer to the communities we serve. It’s a beautiful facility, and I am very proud of our team rolling up their sleeves and working hard to prepare for opening day," interim CEO Ed Staren said.

The hospital created 50 clinical and support staff jobs.

Abrazo Health plans to build another neighborhood hospital next year.
