8 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Eight hospitals or health systems announced, started or completed construction projects in the last week:

1. Dartmouth-Hitchcock's $130M patient tower plan advances
Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock received approval from the city planning board to build a $130 million, five-story patient tower, according to Valley News.

2. Partners HealthCare plans $6.1B in expansions
Boston-based Partners HealthCare plans to spend $6.1 billion on capital projects to expand into New England and abroad in the next five years.

3. Sharp HealthCare opens 106-bed hospital tower 
San Diego-based Sharp HealthCare opened its $244 million, 106-bed hospital tower to patients this week. It is the first new hospital tower built in South Bay in 40 years.

4. Valley Baptist Health System opens microhospital
Harlingen, Texas-based Valley Baptist Health System has opened a microhospital in Weslaco, Texas, and plans to open several more in the state.

5. USF Health opens medical school in downtown Tampa
After 900 days of construction, University of Southern Florida's new medical school campus in downtown Tampa, Fla., is open to students.

6. Florida health systems open $152M jointly owned hospital
Two Florida-based health systems have opened their joint $152.7 million hospital in Deltona, Fla.

7. Dignity Health unveils details of $320M California replacement hospital
Dignity Health unveiled more details this week about its its $320 million replacement hospital in Elk Grove, Calif.

8. U of Illinois hospital system to build $191M Chicago outpatient clinic
Chicago-based University of Illinois Hospital and Health Science System plans to build a $191 million outpatient building on its main campus.
