8 health systems opening new hospitals

The following health systems have opened new hospitals, advanced proposals to build them or announced plans to build new facilities since Nov. 7.

1. Mercyhealth wins appeal to build Illinois microhospital
Mercyhealth's is one step closer to building a microhospital in Crystal Lake, Ill., after an appellate court ruled against its competitor.

2. Mayo Clinic to open 741-bed hospital in the United Arab Emirates
Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company have partnered to open and operate a 741-licensed bed hospital in the United Arab Emirates.

3. Kaiser plans $13B expansion in Baltimore area
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente plans to open 10 new medical facilities in the Baltimore area as part of a $13 billion expansion plan.

4. BayCare to build $200M hospital near rival Florida facility
Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System is planning to build a $200 million hospital down the street from an AdventHealth hospital in Wesley Chapel, Fla. BayCare filed plans with Pasco County, Fla., in mid-November for a 190,000-square-foot facility with 60 beds for medical-surgical, critical care and observation. BayCare also plans to build a 85,000-square-foot medical office building.

5. Stanford opens $2B hospital 
After 10 years of planning and construction, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Health Care opened its $2 billion hospital Nov. 17.

6. Geisinger, St. Luke's joint venture hospital opens
An 80-bed acute care hospital built by Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger and Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's University Health Network has opened to patients.

7. Inspira Health to open $365M hospital Dec. 8
Woodbury, N.J.-based Inspira Health is slated to open its $365 million medical center Dec. 8. 

8. $144M orthopedic specialty hospital coming to Wisconsin
Appleton, Wis.-based ThedaCare plans to build a $144 million specialty hospital for orthopedic, spine and pain treatment.
