The imminent closure of Philadelphia-based Hahnemann University Hospital has patients and family members struggling to obtain copies of medical records, birth records and death records, according to local radio station KYW.
The son of a former Hahnemann patient said it has been nearly impossible for the past month to get a copy of his father's medical records.
Additionally, the son of the Hahnemann patient said he was informed that the medical records department would be closing Aug. 23.
American Academic Health Systems, which owns the hospital, did not return KYW's requests for comment. The medical records department closure has not been confirmed by American Academic Health Systems. Hahnemann University Hospital plans to officially close on or around Sept. 6.
Ron Dreskin, interim systems CEO with Hahnemann University Hospital disputed claims the medical records department is closing.
"That is 100 percent false. Our medical records department is open and has been open and will continue to be open," Mr. Dreskin told KYW.
