A new tool available to the Epic community helped Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical System reduce unnecessary CT angiogram scans, which are both costly and involve harmful radiation, according to an Epic blog post.
The decision support tool helps ensure all patients undergo a pulmonary embolism risk assessment before a physician orders a CT angiogram.
After implementing the tool, UMMS saw a 10 percent reduction in CT angiograms ordered.
