Tempus, an artificial intelligence-powered precision medicine company, and Epic are teaming up to roll out large-panel genomic sequencing testing across the EHR giant's network, the companies said Nov. 18.
Four things to know:
1. Since its launch in 2015, Tempus has raised $1 billion and has an $8.1 billion valuation, CNBC reported in May.
2. Under the partnership, Tempus uses Epic's genomics module to integrate test ordering and genomic data delivery into existing EHR clinical workflows. Eight healthcare institutions have rolled out the new integration.
3. In 2022, Epic and Tempus plan to add large-panel genomic sequencing across the EHR company's network. Large-panel sequencing is a type of technology that examines numerous different genes simultaneously to detect mutations, according to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
4. The new capabilities will make it faster and easier for health systems to activate Tempus testing options within their Epic EHR, according to the news release.
