From using generative artificial intelligence technology to draft MyChart responses to being one of the few EHR vendors that did not conduct layoffs, here are five updates on Epic's operations, software products and partnerships reported by Becker's in April.
- Peter Lee, corporate vice president of research and incubations at Microsoft, said Epic's first AI developments excited him and brought tears to his eyes. The EHR vendor and Microsoft are using generative AI technology to draft responses to messages physicians receive from patients through MyChart.
- Epic is extending its partnership with Microsoft to develop and integrate generative AI into its EHR software, with health systems beginning to pilot the new integrations.
- Hospitals and health systems using Epic can access Microsoft Teams for virtual visits within their EHRs. Through the Microsoft Teams EHR connector, clinicians can launch telehealth appointments via their EHRs and allow patients to access virtual care appointments through several outlets.
- Founder and CEO of Epic Systems Judy Faulkner said the vendor does not sunset its software because it believes in its updates and wants its clients to use them.
- Epic told Becker's it has not conducted layoffs like other EHR vendors because it does not overhire.
