Epic experienced a power outage April 30 across its Verona, Wis.-based campus after an incident involving a raccoon shut down the nearby power station the EHR vendor uses, Channel 3000 reports.
Epic told the network a raccoon at Alliant Energy Customers' power station caused the outage, and that the EHR giant used its 18 generators on campus to continue operations during the down time.
"We have an automatic annunciation system at Epic that tells us when we have an issue and we all respond to that," Epic Facilities Director Bruce Richards told Channel 3000. "Our site went on generators in two minutes total."
The generators have about a 50-hour lifespan, according to the report.
"We have all of our customers who are hospitals and medical clinics, that need our data and our support to stay online," Mr. Richards said. "It's important that we stay powered up."
