Drchrono allows physicians to unlock EMR with iPhone X's Face ID

Drchrono — a provider of EMR, practice management, revenue cycle management and healthcare application programming interface platforms for iPhones — said it's one of the first third-party apps to use the iPhone X's Face ID to open an online medical record, CNBC reports.

Physicians using the drchrono app on iPhone X will be able to look at the device to log in, rather than identifying themselves through a traditional username and password. This capability will save physicians time when attempting to log into the EMR system, drchrono officials said.

For security, EMR systems often require a physician to provide their username and password each time they enter a room — leading many physicians to spend up to an hour a day logging into their account, according to CNBC.

"The barrier for login is super high for healthcare," Daniel Kivatinos, co-founder and COO of drchrono, told CNBC.
