Cerner launched its annual Code App Challenge, which aims to encourage third-party developers to design applications that can integrate with EHR systems to improve consumers' access and understanding of health information.
The Cerner Open Developer Experience started in 2016. The program supplies third-party developers with tools and resources to bring their software ideas for apps to life. Apps created through the program are required to embed across all EHR platforms, not only Cerner's.
"People should be able to access and understand their own health information regardless of facility or EHR, which is why collaboration through open platforms and shared data is critical to our mission," said John Gresham, Cerner Health Networks senior vice president, according to a news release.
The deadline for submissions for the 2019 Code App Challenge is Aug. 16. The winning individual or team will be granted a one-year membership to Cerner's code program.
