The American Medical Association on Feb. 25 announced the release of a new online resource to help physician practices navigate legal and operational challenges associated with providing patients access to their digital health information.
The new resource, dubbed the Patient Records Electronic Access Playbook, comprises four sections of educational information and reference resources with tips, case scenarios and best practices for protecting patients' privacy while giving them and their providers convenient electronic access to their health records.
"As technology plays an increasingly important role in collecting and exchanging health data, the AMA believes that providing patients with improved information access and better information privacy are not mutually exclusive goals," said AMA board chair Jesse Ehrenfeld, MD, according to a news release emailed to Becker's Hospital Review.
The playbook offers information on various topics for patient record sharing, including accounts and types of information, forms and formats for sharing records, and patient requests/involvement of third parties.
