Epic's EHR ambient voice technology will offer clinicians the ability to look up patient information and document care via voice command, according to a March 9 company blog post.
Five things to know:
1. Providers can use the EHR assistant, dubbed Hey Epic!, to look up a patient's information such as their history and recent visits or tests.
2. Epic developers are currently working on adding more voice commands to the tool so providers can place orders for labs, referrals or imaging.
3. In the future, Hey Epic! will be able to document information such as clinical notes directly into the EHR.
4. With Haiku, Epic's iPhone app that enables secure access to the EHR, providers can use Hey Epic! to request information about upcoming patients and their prescriptions, or to call a colleague.
5. Epic is also focusing on making the voice assistant available on Android, tablet and desktop.
