Managing employees' expectations is key when switching to a new EHR, but healthcare organizations have to understand the obstacles that lie ahead, the American Medical Association reported.
In the July 26 article, the AMA outlined 10 common challenges that organizations face when transitioning from one EHR to another:
1. Reluctance to embrace change.
2. Rise in job dissatisfaction, burnout.
3. Team members will be diverted from other projects.
4. More training will be needed.
5. EHR system purchase price, plus transition costs.
6. Burdens of shifting personnel to other duties.
7. EHR customization's a hard call.
8. Higher risk of data loss, breaches during transition.
9. Disruptions to health-info exchange.
10. Higher cybersecurity risks during transition.
