What GE Healthcare has done before the spinoff

GE Healthcare is set to disrupt 2023 as the General Electric business unit plans to spin off into an independent company in the first week of January. In preparation for the spinoff, GE Healthcare had a busy 2022.

Here are the five biggest moves GE Healthcare made in 2022:

  1. GE Healthcare appointed Rodney Hochman, MD, who has served as president and CEO of Renton, Wash.-based Providence since 2016, and Cleveland Clinic President and CEO Tom Mihaljevic, MD, to its board.

  2. In March, GE Healthcare started development on a digital health platform that is designed to help boost the digital transformation of hospitals and health systems.

  3. General Electric announced the January spinoff date in September.

  4. The company is looking to explore acquisitions before the spin-off and in December, GE Healthcare was among the groups eyeing a $7 billion acquisition of Medtronic's patient monitoring and respiratory business units.

  5. In December, the company's board formally approved the planned spinoff and made plans to begin trading on the Nasdaq under the symbol GEHC.
