Walmart expands doula coverage for employees

Walmart is set to extend its healthcare coverage across the nation in November by offering employees the option to access the support of a doula.

The program, which covers $1,000 for doula services during pregnancy, is launching Nov. 1 and is a part of the benefits offered through Walmart's Life with Baby program, according to an Oct. 24 news release from the company.

The program aims to combat healthcare disparities based on race and enhance the well-being of its employees and their infants during pregnancy and childbirth, particularly in regions where healthcare access may be constrained.

According to Walmart, the doulas participating in the program hold certifications from either the National Black Doulas Association or DONA International.

Walmart introduced the program to employees in Georgia in 2021 before extending it to employees in Louisiana, Indiana and Illinois in the past year.
