Elon Musk told Tesla employees to return to in-person work for at least 40 hours a week or leave the company, CNBC reported June 1.
In emails sent to Tesla employees, Mr. Musk stated that employees must show up for at least 40 hours per week in a main Tesla office, if not, the company would assume they had resigned.
"Anyone who wishes to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean *minimum*) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla," said Mr. Musk in the email.
Mr. Musk said it was important that senior employees show their presence and that the company would not be able to create "great new products" if employees were to "phone in."
Other Big Tech companies like Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft have been trying to retain employees, giving them incentives such as pay increases and stock compensation to combat the risk of recession and what is known as the Great Resignation.
