Amazon cleared a regulatory hurdle on its path to acquiring One Medical, according to The Seattle Times.
The Oregon Health Authority approved the proposed acquisition after conducting a regulatory review. One Medical has both virtual and in-person care, including five clinics in Oregon. The preliminary review found:
1. Amazon purchasing One Medical likely wouldn't "substantially" lower access to care in the state.
2. Health equity concerns may arise if One Medical captures commercially insured patients with higher pay rates away from other clinics that also serve the Medicare and Medicaid population.
However, the regulatory board still approved the transaction. The Oregon Health Authority would require Amazon and One Medical to report information on services, patient population, quality of care and governance changes every six months for five years after the transaction is finalized.
Amazon and One Medical are still waiting for federal approval to close the deal.
