Former Amazon, Microsoft engineers team up with Allen AI Institute to launch healthcare billing startup

MajorBoost, a new health tech company that focuses on issues such as health insurance reimbursement, launched July 15.

MajorBoost CEO Lekshmi Venu co-founded the company after working at Amazon, where she led a global data science and artificial intelligence team. She also previously held leadership roles at Express Scripts, according to a news release.

Ms. Venu co-founded MajorBoost with Andrew Palmer, who previously worked at Microsoft as a software developer, and Ben Hesketh, a tech developer who has gotten 15 patents to date with Microsoft. Mr. Hesketh serves as chief technology officer of MajorBoost while Mr. Palmer serves as vice president of engineering.

MajorBoost is working with the Allen Institute for AI to create AI-based communication and decision support software and tools for the healthcare billing process. The organizations are targeting data interoperability between providers and insurance companies.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen created the Allen Institute for AI in 2014; the center focuses on conducting AI engineering, research and tech development for healthcare and other industries.
