Twitter planning to sell off user names: Report

Twitter might sell off user names to generate revenue for the company, The New York Times reported Jan. 11.

Since December, employees have discussed the plan, which would include online auctions in which people would bid on the names, two people with knowledge of the situation told the newspaper. It's unclear if it would comprise all user names.

The social media giant has undergone a bevy of changes since Elon Musk took it over in a $44 billion deal in October, including charging for subscriptions, ending the labeling of COVID-19 misinformation and laying off thousands of employees.

Twitter and Mr. Musk didn't respond to requests from The Times for comment.
