Baptist renames pediatric behavioral health unit after philanthropists

Pensacola, Fla.-based Baptist Hospital is naming the pediatric and adolescent health wing in its behavioral health unit after philanthropists Joel and Wendy Smith, who donated to the hospital.

The Smiths wanted to raise awareness for the behavioral health crisis happening across the U.S., according to a Jan. 9 Baptist news release.

"Kids nowadays grow up with so many stressors that we never had to deal with," Ms. Smith said. "On top of that, you add a pandemic to their life. I feel that it's life's responsibility to take care of each other, especially when you're able to, and especially when something has been brought to your attention. My heartstrings pull for anything to do with children."
