Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health is using digital health technologies to connect uninsured patients with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis access to medical providers via telehealth.
In 2022, the health system created a digital public health platform that connects uninsured COVID-19 positive patients at testing sites to a federally qualified health center provider who can provide consultation via telehealth, according to a June 6 press release from UC Davis Health. The provider can then prescribe medication for the patient virtually through a tablet.
Four digital health navigators from UC Davis Health are also on-site to help assist patients.
The program was made possible through legislative funding passed March 9, 2022, while the testing sites are hosted by the UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities, in collaboration with community health organizations.
