Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health plans to digitize approximately 8 million pathology slides to ease the jobs of providers and advance research.
The 33-hospital system partnered with health tech company Pramana on the multiyear endeavor. The project will incorporate robotic handling of slides, label deidentification, and automated scanning at Intermountain's biorepository.
"Intermountain Health has always been at the forefront of adopting innovative solutions to elevate patient care, and Pramana stands as an organization we believe in," said Karen Brownell, vice president of laboratory services at Intermountain Health, in an Oct. 24 news release. "These digital pathology slides are amplifying our research capabilities, all the while minimizing manual workload for our clinicians."
