U of Iowa Health Care denies sharing patient data with Facebook

University of Iowa Health Care said it did not share confidential patient information with social media giant Facebook, Iowa Capital Dispatch reported April 27.

After a lawsuit was filed against the health system for allegedly using a Facebook pixel on two of its websites, University of Iowa Health Care released a written statement April 27 stating that it does not share protected health information with Meta or Facebook.

The health system said it would be reviewing the lawsuit that was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.

This comes after a Health Affairs study found that 98.6 percent of U.S. hospital and health system websites implemented tracking technologies that sent patient data to third-party companies such as Alphabet, Meta and Adobe.
