'Suspicious communication' leads Norton to shut down network

After Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare discovered "suspicious communication" on May 9, the health system temporarily shut down email and internet access as a precaution.

A hospital spokesperson told local news outlet WDRB that video visits and electronic check-in are still not working. Some elective procedures were also rescheduled May 10.

"We are working closely with external partners to thoroughly analyze the network, while simultaneously working to restore impacted systems," a May 10 Norton news release said.

The health system has not provided any details on the content of the communication. All the health system's locations remain open.
