Proliance patients' payment info exposed in security incident: 4 details

A Seattle-based surgical practice reported Dec. 23 a data security incident that affected patient payment information earlier this year.

Four details:

1. Proliance Surgeons, a practice of 450 specialists with 100 locations, realized information for patients who made payments through its online payment platform between Nov. 13, 2019, and June 24, 2020, had been exposed in a data security incident.

2. The surgical practice notified affected patients of the incident affecting its corporate website on Dec. 23, after conducting an investigation.

3. Proliance found payment information, including cardholder names, account numbers and ZIP codes, had been exposed. The incident did not include personal health information.

4. After identifying the source of the incident, Proliance said it launched a new website and payment platform with better security and coordinated with major payment card brands to prevent fraudulent card activity.
