Kalispell, Mont.-based Logan Health Medical Center notified patients Feb. 22 that a hacker gained access to 174,761 patients' protected health information.
On Nov. 22, 2021, officials at the medical center became aware that an unauthorized user had viewed information from a single file server. It wasn't until Jan. 5, 2021, that an investigation revealed that the files affected on the server contained patient information.
Patient information compromised in the breach included names, addresses, medical record numbers, dates of birth, telephone numbers, email addresses, insurance claim information, dates of service, the patient's treating and referring physician, medical bill account numbers, and health insurance information. The types of information in the compromised files varied from patient to patient.
Logan Health said no evidence suggests any information on the affected server has been misused, however, as a precaution, affected individuals have been offered complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services.
