Hackers declare 'cyber war' on Russia

The hacker group Anonymous has vowed to take action against Russia following the country's invasion of Ukraine, Infosecurity Magazine reported Feb. 25.

The group tweeted a statement Feb. 24: "#Anonymous is currently involved in operations against the Russian Federation. Our operations are targeting the Russian government. There is an inevitability that the private sector will most likely be affected too."

The hackers also tweeted their intention to go to "cyber war" with Russia.

Shortly after its tweets were posted, the group took responsibility for taking down the Kremlin and State Duma government websites as well as the Russian state-controlled international television station website.

The hackers have been known to target groups if they disagree with their actions or policies, including U.S. and Israeli government agencies as well as the Westboro Baptist Church and the Klu Klux Klan, according to Infosecurity Magazine.
