Florida medical group employee tried to sell patient records, US Secret Service says

Mount Dora, Fla.-based Aegis Medical Group was alerted by the U.S. Secret Service in September that an employee allegedly tried to sell two patient records, according to the Daily Commercial.

In a Nov. 8 statement, Aegis Medical Group said the employee had access to patient records between July 24 and Sept. 9. The patient data that was allegedly compromised included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account numbers, mailing addresses and diagnoses.

Aegis Medical Group is working to improve security within its records storage system. According to the report, the employee has also been arrested and is in federal custody.
