Chicago-based Lurie Children's Hospital is looking into a "cybersecurity issue" as its computers, internet and phones continue to be offline for the sixth consecutive day, contributing to a systemwide network outage.
On Jan. 31, Lurie Children's experienced an outage that affected its phone lines, internet services and the MyChart patient portal.
Hospital staff took to social media to share their reliance on paper charts, following standard "downtime" procedures. Meanwhile, family members of patients expressed uncertainty about whether to attend scheduled appointments and procedures.
In a Feb. 4 update posted on its website, Lurie said it still remains open and is providing care to patients with "as limited disruption as possible."
The hospital has not disclosed the cause of the "cybersecurity matter."
The incident has affected Lurie's main hospital as well as outpatient centers and primary care offices.
