Baylor Scott & White Medical Center notifies 47,000 after credit card info breach

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Frisco (Texas) said one of its vendors suffered a cyberattack in late September which may have compromised 47,000 patients' or guarantors' credit card information.

The hospital discovered an issue with its third-party vendor's credit card processing system on Sept. 29. Hospital officials said they immediately alerted the vendor and terminated credit card processing through the vendor.

Officials said a computer intrusion had occurred between Sept. 22-29, but there was no evidence that the information had been further disclosed or misused.

The potentially compromised information includes: names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, medical record numbers, dates of service, insurance provider information, account numbers, last four digits of the credit card used for payment, the credit card CVV number, type of credit card, dates of recurring payment, account balance, invoice numbers and transaction statuses.

The hospital's information and clinical systems were not affected by the cyberattack, and medical information and Social Security numbers were not compromised.
