Over the last few weeks, several health systems have been the victims of cyberattacks, with hackers breaching patient data and taking down entire systems.
Here are five of the most recent cyberattacks as reported by Becker's.
- Glenwood Springs, Colo.-based Valley View Hospital was targeted by hackers in a phishing attack that potentially affected 21,000 people when four employees' accounts were broken into by the hackers.
- Two Florida hospitals were affected when Tenet Health experienced a cybersecurity incident that suspended user access to certain information technology applications.
- Janesville, Wis.-based Mercy Health was made aware that a breach into its health IT management services contractor, Ciox Health, may have exposed the personal information of patients. It also affected 32 other providers.
- Cleveland-based MetroHealth System experienced a data breach during an upgrade of its EHR system that exposed 1,700 patients' information.
- Knoxville-based East Tennessee Children's Hospital notified an undisclosed number of patients that an unspecified IT incident exposed their personal health information.
