Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Maimonides Medical Center has begun notifying 33,000 patients that their data may have been compromised during a recent hack.
On April 4, the hospital discovered a hacker had gained access to one of its computer servers, according to a notice posted on its website. Maimonides learned the party had access to the server beginning March 18.
While the hospital said the hacker did not breach its EHR, the server stored patient data that may have included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, diagnoses and treatment information. The hospital said it has added safeguards to prevent a similar event from happening in the future.
