Study: Internists Received Large Pay Increases in 2010

Internists received large pay increases in the past year while surgeon salaries continued to fall, according to the 2010 LocumTenens.com Physician's Salary Survey.

The survey found that internist salaries in 2010 averaged $191,864, up 6.6 percent from $179,958 in 2009. Internist compensation remained lower than that of radiologists, who reported an average annual salary of $398,571 in 2010.

The survey reported surgeons' average salaries fell from $287,520 to $284,642 from 2009 to 2010, a 2.4 percent decrease.
