Employment of pharmacists is expected to grow by 17 percent from 2008-2010, meaning the creation of around 46,000 new jobs, according to a Delmarva Now report.
The median salary of pharmacists has increased by 2.6 percent since 2008, currently standing at $109,180. There are currently 268,000 pharmacists in the United States.
Pharmacy programs across the country have seen increased applications, meaning the demand may be soon filled by the wave of students now entering pharmacy school. Pharmacists may also be able to provide more services, including immunizations, bone density screenings and cholesterol tests, according to the report.
