Nine of the top 10 earners at the University of Iowa were physicians and administrators from the UI Health Care campus, according to a Press-Citizen report.
The top 10 UI earners made a combined $7.2 million in fiscal year 2011, according to figures for base pay provided by UI. The 2011 combined salary represents an increase of $778,150 over the earners' combined pay in fiscal year 2010.
One of the highest earners on the list was UI physician Alan Reed, MD, a transplant surgeon who saw his salary jump from $561,770 to $650,000 in fiscal year 2011. Jean Robillard, UI vice president for medical affairs, experienced an increase from $522,500 a year to $561,000.
Mark Iannettoi, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in esophageal problems, earned $776,178, a 10 percent increase over his fiscal year 2010 salary. John Buatti, MD, a radiation oncologist, earned $622,193, also an increase of 10 percent. UI Hospitals and Clinics CEO Ken Hates earned $591,200.
