Over the past 12 months, hospitals and health systems have provided a 2.3 percent average merit and market increase to staff-level nurses, and the average national hiring bonus for registered nurses was $3,000, according to Integrated Healthcare Strategies' 2012 National Nursing Compensation Survey.
The survey recorded data from 459 hospitals and health systems of various bed and revenue sizes. Roughly 90 percent of respondents awarded merit compensation increases to their nurses, and over the past 12 months, 84 percent provided nurses with market compensation increases.
