Cook County Hospital System Spends $19.7M on Overtime Costs

Cook County's Health and Hospitals System in Illinois has spent nearly $19.7 million on overtime costs through the first half of the fiscal year, nearly twice the targeted amount, according to a Chicago News Cooperative report.

Oak Forest (Ill.) Hospital alone was 253 percent over budget in the first half of the year, spending $1.8 million in overtime pay, the report said.

Some county commissioners said multiple rounds of layoffs and furloughs have contributed to the spike in overtime pay.
