End-stage renal disease facilities, federal health centers and rural health clinics are now able to submit and update Medicare enrollment online, according to an AHA News Now report.
As part of a CMS upgrade to its online Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS), hospitals and providers may now check online to see if a Medicare administrative contractor has asked for revalidated data. Those providers and hospitals may also digitally sign and verify enrollment applications.
Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, hospitals, dialysis facilities, rural health clinics and federally qualified health centers are in a "limited" risk category for CMS enrollment screenings. That means the process Medicare contractors will use to review those applications is largely unchanged, according to the report.
