All children 6 years and older should be screened for obesity at physician offices and those found to be obese should be referred to attend intensive weight management programs, according to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
The recommendation comes from findings that obesity screening causes minimal harm to patients and intensive weight management interventions resulted in weight loss for up to 12 months, according to the report in JAMA.
The recommendation is an update to USPSTF's previous guidelines on obesity screening released in 2010, according to the report.
