Oklahoma hospital lifts lockdown, keeps security measures after threats

McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, Okla., has lifted its hard lockdown after a series of threats were made against the hospital and staff in recent weeks.

"In light of recent reports from law enforcement, the hard lockdown has been lifted effective immediately," the hospital said May 5 in a post on its Facebook page.

McCurtain Memorial said it will continue security measures requiring patients and visitors to enter through the emergency room/registration entrance and walk through a metal detector and prohibiting bags and purses. Those who enter must also sign in, present an ID and log their time in and time out.

All outpatient services will occur, the hospital said.

McCurtain Memorial's cafe and wellness center will be open, but individuals going there must enter through the emergency room/registration entrance, effective May 8.

The hospital said it also continues to enforce its rule of two visitors per patient per day.

Lift of the hard lockdown comes after McCurtain Memorial implemented the measure May 1 after CEO Brian Whitfield said a shooting threat was made against staff. The hospital was also evacuated after two bomb threats were called to McCurtain Memorial over a two-week period, which were preceded by an initial lockdown due to protests in the area.
